Key Words and Their Meanings:

  • "Ta'tūnana" (تَأْتُونَنَا): You came to us / you approached us.
  • "ʿAn al-Yamīn" (عَنِ الْيَمِينِ): From the right side — meaning from the direction of religion and truth, or from a position where they appeared trustworthy and sincere, making their deception easier.

Explanation of the Verse:

On the Day of Judgment, when the followers of misguidance are confronted with the reality of their loss, they will turn to their misguided leaders and say: *"Indeed, you used to come to us from the right side."* This means: You approached us from the direction of what seemed right and true. You came to us disguised as guides of goodness and religion, swearing that you were upon the truth, and because we trusted you and felt safe from your deception, we believed you. You beautified for us the path of disbelief, polytheism, and sin, while making the truth of the messengers seem heavy and unappealing. You made us turn away from the straight path and led us into ruin, and now we are here in this punishment because of your misguidance.

This verse reveals a painful scene from the Hereafter — a scene of blame and regret. The followers realize too late that their leaders did not come to them with open evil, but rather with a false cloak of righteousness, which made their deception even more effective. They came "from the right side," meaning from the side that people naturally trust and feel secure with, making it easier to mislead them.

A Call to Reflection and Guidance:

Dear reader, this verse carries a profound lesson for every one of us. It teaches us that the greatest danger to our faith does not always come from obvious evil, but from those who appear to be on the side of truth while leading us away from it. Therefore, we must always seek knowledge from the Qur'an and the authentic Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), and we must verify what we hear and whom we follow. Allah, in His infinite mercy, has given us the Qur'an as a clear light and the Prophet's guidance as a perfect example. Hold firmly to them, and you will never be deceived, for whoever clings to the Book of Allah and the Sunnah of His Messenger will be guided to the straight path and saved from the regret of that Day. Let this verse be a reminder to choose your companions and leaders wisely, and to always ask Allah for steadfastness upon the truth until we meet Him — for the one who is guided by Allah will never be misled, and the one whom Allah leaves astray will never find a guide.
