Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- "Fīhim" (فِيهِمْ) — "among them," referring to the earlier nations mentioned in the preceding verses.
- "Mundhirīn" (مُّنذِرِينَ) — "warners," i.e., messengers and prophets who cautioned their people against the consequences of disbelief and sin.
Explanation of the Verse:
In this verse, Allah (Exalted be He) affirms a profound truth: He sent, among every nation that came before, warners and messengers who called their people to the worship of Allah alone, warned them of the punishment of the Hereafter, and reminded them of the consequences of their deeds. These prophets came with clear signs, miracles, and guidance, yet their peoples—despite the warnings—chose disbelief and rejected the truth. The verse serves as a reminder that Allah never leaves a people without guidance; He always sends someone to awaken their hearts and steer them toward righteousness. The warning was not merely a formality—it was a mercy, an opportunity for repentance, and a test of their response. Yet, as the following verses indicate, the majority persisted in their denial, and so the divine promise of punishment was fulfilled upon them.
A Call to Reflection and Faith:
This verse carries a timeless lesson for every believer: Allah’s mercy is vast, and His guidance is never withheld from those who seek it. The sending of warners is a sign of His justice—He does not punish a people until He has made the truth clear to them. For us today, the greatest warner is our beloved Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), whose message remains alive in the Qur’an and Sunnah. Let this verse inspire you to be grateful for the gift of guidance, to heed the warnings of Allah, and to turn to Him in sincerity before it is too late. The door of repentance is open, and Allah’s mercy embraces all who call upon Him with a truthful heart. Do not be among those who heard the warning yet turned away—rather, be among those who listened, believed, and acted upon the truth, for they are the ones who will attain success in this life and the next.
