Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- كَيْدًا (Kaydan): A scheme, plot, or deceitful plan intended to cause harm.
- الْأَسْفَلِينَ (Al-Asfaleen): The lowest, the humiliated, the defeated, those brought down to the lowest position.
Tafsir (Explanation):
After Prophet Ibrahim (peace be upon him) shattered the idols of his people and left the largest one intact so they could question it, his people were filled with rage and fury. They could not tolerate his bold stand against their false beliefs, so they resolved to punish him severely. They built a massive fire and decided to throw him into it, intending to destroy him completely and rid themselves of his message once and for all. This was their "kayd" — their cunning and malicious plot to extinguish the light of truth.
But Allah, the All-Powerful, had a different decree. He turned their scheme upside down. Instead of Ibrahim being burned and humiliated, it was the plotters themselves who were brought low. Allah made their fire cool and safe for His beloved prophet, and their plan backfired completely. They became the "asfaleen" — the lowest, the defeated, the humiliated — while Ibrahim emerged victorious, honored, and protected by his Lord.
This verse teaches us a profound lesson: no matter how powerful or cunning the enemies of truth may appear, Allah's plan always prevails. When people conspire against the righteous, their schemes only lead to their own disgrace. The fire that was meant to burn Ibrahim became a source of comfort for him, and the plot that was meant to destroy him became the very means of his elevation and the exposure of his people's weakness.
A Da'wah Reflection:
Dear reader, reflect on this scene: a single man standing alone against an entire nation, armed only with faith in Allah. His enemies gathered all their strength, all their resources, all their numbers — yet Allah made them the lowest. This is the promise of Allah to those who trust in Him: "So do not weaken and do not grieve, for you will be superior if you are [true] believers" (Qur'an 3:139).
Today, when you see the forces of falsehood gathering against Islam and its people, remember this verse. Their plots, no matter how sophisticated, are nothing before the power of Allah. The same Allah who saved Ibrahim from the fire is alive and capable today. He never abandons His righteous servants. So hold firm to your faith, trust in your Lord, and know that the final victory belongs to the believers — for the lowest position is always reserved for those who oppose the truth, while honor and elevation are granted by Allah to whom He wills.
