Key Words and Their Meanings:

  • "Dhahib" (ذَاهِبٌ): Going, departing, or heading towards — indicating a physical journey and a purposeful movement.
  • "Ila Rabbi" (إِلَىٰ رَبِّي): To my Lord — meaning towards that which pleases Him, His worship, and His guidance.
  • "Sayahdeen" (سَيَهْدِينِ): He will guide me — a promise of divine direction and provision of what is beneficial.

Explanation of the Verse:

This verse captures a pivotal moment in the life of Prophet Ibrahim (peace be upon him). After he had confronted his people and their idols, breaking their false gods and delivering his message with unwavering courage, he now declares his departure. He says: *"Indeed, I am going to my Lord; He will guide me."*

This is not merely a physical migration from one land to another; it is a profound spiritual declaration. Ibrahim (peace be upon him) is stating that he is leaving behind his homeland, his tribe, and everything familiar — all for the sake of his Lord. He is choosing Allah over the comfort of his people, over the safety of his birthplace, and over the approval of his community. He is heading towards a place where he can worship Allah freely, without compromise or fear.

The phrase *"He will guide me"* reflects his complete trust in Allah. He does not know exactly where he will go or what awaits him, but he is certain that Allah will not abandon him. This is the essence of *tawakkul* (reliance on Allah) — taking the step of faith and leaving the outcome to the One who knows all. His migration was to the blessed land of Sham (Greater Syria), where he would continue his mission of monotheism and where Allah would bless him with righteous offspring, as mentioned in the following verses.

A Da'wah Reflection:

This verse teaches us a timeless lesson: when you stand firm for the truth, Allah will never leave you without a path forward. Ibrahim (peace be upon him) did not wait for perfect conditions to obey his Lord; he moved with certainty, trusting that Allah would light the way. In our own lives, we may face situations where following Allah's commands requires us to leave behind certain habits, relationships, or environments that are not pleasing to Him. This verse encourages us to take that step — to say, *"I am going to my Lord"* — and to trust that He will guide us to what is best for our faith and our worldly affairs. No sacrifice made for Allah is ever wasted; He always replaces it with something better. Let this be a source of strength for every believer who feels alone in their journey towards righteousness — you are never truly alone, for your Lord is with you, and He will guide you.

They said, "Construct for him a furnace and throw him into the burning fire."
And they intended for him a plan, but We made them the most debased.
And [then] he said, "Indeed, I will go to [where I am ordered by] my Lord; He will guide me.
My Lord, grant me [a child] from among the righteous."
So We gave him good tidings of a forbearing boy.
