Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- Am (أَمْ): Here it carries the meaning of negation and denial, i.e., "Is it ever possible that...?" or "We do not make..."
- Al-Mufsideen (الْمُفْسِدِينَ): Those who spread corruption and mischief on earth through disbelief, sin, and transgression.
- Al-Muttaqeen (الْمُتَّقِينَ): Those who are mindful of Allah, obedient to His commands, and avoid His prohibitions out of piety and reverence.
- Al-Fujjār (الْفُجَّار): The wicked, the immoral, those who persist in sin and disbelief.
Tafsir (Explanation):
This verse poses a rhetorical question that strikes at the very heart of justice and wisdom. Allah asks: "Shall We make those who believe and do righteous deeds like those who spread corruption on earth? Shall We make the God-fearing like the wicked?"
The implied answer is an emphatic "No!" — such equality is utterly inconceivable for the All-Wise, All-Just Creator. It would be a grave injustice to equate the believer who strives in obedience, who prays, gives charity, upholds truth, and seeks Allah's pleasure, with the corrupt one who spreads mischief, oppresses others, and lives in rebellion against his Lord. Likewise, it would be absurd to place the pious, who guard their tongues, eyes, and hearts from sin, on the same level as the wicked who plunge into immorality without remorse.
This verse reassures the believers that their efforts are not in vain. Allah sees every deed, every sacrifice, and every tear shed in devotion. He would never let the sincere believer be treated the same as the corrupt tyrant on the Day of Judgment. The divine wisdom demands a clear separation: a reward of eternal bliss for the righteous and a just recompense for the wicked.
A Call to Reflection and Hope:
Dear reader, ponder this profound truth: your Lord is never unjust. He does not overlook a single atom of good or evil. If you find yourself struggling to remain steadfast in faith while surrounded by corruption, know that your struggle is witnessed by the One who created the heavens and the earth. He has promised that the outcome will be different — Paradise for the believers and the God-fearing, and a painful end for the wicked.
This verse is a source of immense comfort and motivation. It tells you that your faith, your prayers, your honesty, and your kindness are not wasted. They are seeds planted for a harvest that will be reaped in the Hereafter. So hold firm to your faith, increase in righteous deeds, and never envy the apparent success of the corrupt — for their end is loss, while your end is eternal success. Let this certainty fill your heart with tranquility and your life with purpose.
