Translation — Tafsir
Key Words and Their Meanings:
- Ghuraf (غُرَف): Lofty chambers, elevated rooms, or high mansions in Paradise.
- Mabniyyah (مَبْنِيَّة): Built or constructed, indicating solid, well-established structures.
- Mee'ad (مِيعَاد): The appointed promise or covenant.
Explanation of the Verse:
After mentioning the fate of those who disbelieve and are destined for the Fire, Allah turns to the blessed destiny of the righteous. He says: *"But those who fear their Lord"* — meaning those who are conscious of Him in all their affairs, who sincerely worship Him alone, and who diligently obey His commands while abstaining from what He has forbidden — *"for them are lofty chambers, above which are built more chambers."* These are elevated mansions in Paradise, stacked one above another, like magnificent towers of light and honor, each level more splendid than the one below.
Beneath these chambers, *"rivers flow"* — rivers of pure water, rivers of milk whose taste never changes, rivers of wine that is a delight to those who drink, and rivers of clear honey. These rivers run beneath the gardens and beneath these lofty dwellings, bringing life and beauty to every corner.
Then Allah seals this promise with His own words: *"This is the promise of Allah, and Allah does not fail in His promise."* This is a divine guarantee, an unbreakable covenant from the One who is absolutely truthful and incapable of breaking His word. For breaking a promise is a sign of deficiency and weakness, and Allah is far above any such imperfection. His promise is certain, and His word is true.
A Call to Reflection and Action:
Dear believer, contemplate this magnificent scene! These are not mere words — they are the reality that awaits those who choose to fear Allah in this fleeting world. The chambers of Paradise are built for those who build their lives on taqwa (God-consciousness). Every prayer you offer, every temptation you resist, every honest transaction you make, every kind word you speak — these are the bricks of your chambers in Paradise.
The rivers that flow beneath these chambers are fed by the deeds you send forth today. So let your heart be filled with hope and your limbs with action. The promise is from Allah — and His promise is more certain than the sunrise. Do not let the temporary pleasures of this world distract you from an eternal home where rivers flow and chambers rise in endless beauty. Strive today, and you will dwell in the highest places tomorrow.
