Translation — Tafsir
Key Words and Their Meanings:
- As-Sur (الصور): The Trumpet/ Horn that will be blown by the Angel Israfil, signaling major cosmic events.
- Sa'iqa (صعق): To be struck by a thunderbolt; here it means to lose consciousness and die suddenly.
- Qiyam (قيام): Standing upright, risen from the graves.
Explanation of the Verse:
On that momentous Day, the Trumpet will be blown, and every living being in the heavens and the earth will be struck down in death—except those whom Allah wills to spare, such as the dwellers of Paradise and the angelic bearers of His Throne. This is the first blast, which brings total annihilation to all creation. Then, the Trumpet will be blown a second time—the blast of resurrection—and behold, all of humanity will rise from their graves, standing upright, their eyes wide open, gazing in awe and terror at the magnificent and terrifying scenes unfolding before them, waiting to see what their Lord will do with them.
This verse paints a vivid picture of the absolute power of Allah over life and death. He alone gives life, and He alone takes it away, and He alone will bring all back to life in an instant. The transition from utter death to standing and looking is instantaneous—a testament to His infinite capability.
A Call to Reflection and Action:
Dear reader, this scene is not a distant myth; it is a certain reality that awaits every soul. The very breath you take now is a gift from the One who will one day command the Trumpet to be blown. Imagine standing before your Lord, your eyes wide open, witnessing the truth of everything you were told. Will you be among those who look with hope and joy, or with regret and fear?
The Qur'an invites you today, before that Day, to open your heart to your Creator. The One who created you from nothing and sustains you every moment is the same One who will raise you again. Do not let this life's distractions make you forget that standing. Turn to Allah now, in prayer, in repentance, and in gratitude. He is Al-Hayy (The Ever-Living) who never dies, and He calls you to a life of peace and purpose. The door of His mercy is wide open—so enter it before the Trumpet is blown, and you will find yourself among those who stand on that Day not in terror, but in the serene hope of His eternal reward.
