Word Meanings:
- Al-Salihat (الصالحات): Righteous deeds — all actions that are good, beneficial, and in accordance with Allah's commandments.
- Mumin (مؤمن): A true believer — one who has sincere faith in Allah, His angels, His books, His messengers, the Last Day, and divine decree.
- Naqiran (نقيرًا): The tiny speck or pit-like depression on the back of a date stone (seed) — used here as a metaphor for the smallest possible amount, even less than a speck of dust.
Explanation of the Verse:
This noble verse delivers one of the most beautiful and reassuring messages in the entire Qur'an — a message of perfect justice and boundless mercy from Allah, the Lord of all worlds.
Allah Almighty declares that whoever performs righteous deeds — whether male or female — while being a true believer, will enter Paradise and will not be wronged even to the extent of the smallest speck on a date stone.
Notice the profound wisdom in this verse: Allah mentions both genders explicitly, emphasizing that in His sight, spiritual worth and reward are not based on gender, race, or social status, but solely on faith and righteous action. This is a revolutionary concept that elevates the status of both men and women equally before their Creator.
The condition "while being a believer" is crucial — righteous deeds without faith are like a body without a soul; they carry no weight in the Hereafter. Similarly, faith without righteous deeds is an incomplete claim. True success lies in combining sincere belief with consistent good actions.
The verse also demonstrates Allah's perfect justice: He does not diminish anyone's reward, no matter how small their good deed might be. Even a smile, a kind word, or removing a harm from the road — if done with sincere faith — will be fully accounted for and rewarded. The metaphor of the "naqir" (the tiny speck on a date stone) is used to show that Allah's justice is so precise that He will not reduce even the most minuscule portion of anyone's reward.
This verse brings glad tidings to every believer: your efforts are never wasted. Every prayer, every act of charity, every moment of patience, every tear shed in humility before Allah — all are preserved and will be returned to you multiplied beyond imagination on the Day when you need them most.
So let this verse fill your heart with hope and motivation. Do not underestimate any good deed, no matter how small it may seem. And do not despair of Allah's mercy, no matter your past — for the door of repentance and righteous action is always open. Paradise awaits those who believe and do good, and its gates are wide open for every sincere soul — male or female, rich or poor, young or old.
This is the promise of the Most Merciful — and the promise of Allah is always true.
