Surah Ghafir — Verse 39

Tafsir (Explanation):

O my people! The believer who was advising his nation from the family of Pharaoh is addressing them with profound wisdom and heartfelt concern. He says: "This worldly life is nothing but a fleeting enjoyment." It is like a traveler's provision—a brief stop where one rests, eats, and drinks, only to continue on the journey. The pleasures of this world—wealth, status, health, and youth—are all temporary. They pass away like the shadow of a cloud, leaving nothing behind but memories and deeds.

The world may dazzle you with its glitter, but it is a mirage that vanishes. No matter how long a person lives, even a hundred years or more, it is but a blink in the vastness of eternity. The joys here are mixed with sorrows, the laughter with tears, and every moment of happiness is shadowed by the certainty of loss.

But the Hereafter—that is the true home. It is the Dār al-Qarār, the abode of permanent settlement. There, the believer who worked for Allah's pleasure will find gardens beneath which rivers flow, eternal bliss, and the vision of their Lord. And the one who neglected their duty will find a painful reckoning. The Hereafter is not a fleeting moment; it is forever. It is the destination where every soul will reside eternally—either in everlasting delight or in lasting regret.

So, dear reader, let this beautiful advice touch your heart. This world is but a bridge—cross it wisely, but do not build your permanent home upon it. Invest your time, your wealth, and your efforts in what will remain with you in the eternal abode. Every prayer, every act of kindness, every moment of patience for Allah's sake is a treasure that will greet you in the Hereafter. Do not let the temporary distractions of this life steal from you the everlasting joy that awaits. Choose the eternal home, and work for it with sincerity, for that is the ultimate success.
