Explanation of the Verse:
After creating the earth and providing for its sustenance, Allah then turned His will to the creation of the heavens — and at that time, the heavens were still a formless, smoky vapor, a state of existence before being shaped into the celestial structures we know.
In this majestic scene, Allah addressed both the heaven and the earth with a divine command: "Come into being, willingly or unwillingly." This is not a command of physical movement, but a command of existence and submission to His will. It is a powerful demonstration of Allah's absolute sovereignty — His word alone is sufficient to bring everything into existence, and nothing can resist His decree.
The response of the heaven and the earth was immediate and unanimous: "We come in willing obedience." They did not hesitate, nor did they resist. They acknowledged their complete submission to their Creator, declaring that they had no will other than His will. This response reflects the natural state of all creation — a state of submission to Allah, the Lord of all worlds.
This verse teaches us a profound lesson: the entire universe, from the vast heavens to the solid earth, operates in perfect harmony with Allah's command. They obey Him willingly, without question or resistance. As human beings, we are part of this creation, and our natural disposition (fitrah) calls us to the same submission. When we embrace Islam — which literally means "submission to Allah" — we are not doing something foreign to our nature; rather, we are aligning ourselves with the very fabric of the universe. Just as the heavens and the earth responded to their Creator with willing obedience, so too should we respond to His call with open hearts, saying: "We come, O Lord, in willing submission." This is the path of peace, harmony, and true success — in this life and the Hereafter.
