Word Meanings:
- يُحْشَرُ (yuhsharu): They are gathered and assembled together.
- أَعْدَاءُ اللَّهِ (a‘dā’ullāh): The enemies of Allah — those who opposed His messengers, rejected His signs, and persisted in disbelief and transgression.
- يُوزَعُونَ (yūza‘ūn): They are restrained and held back; the first of them is stopped until the last catches up, so they are all brought together in an orderly yet terrifying procession, unable to flee or scatter.
Explanation of the Verse:
O servant of Allah, reflect on this awe-inspiring scene that Allah presents to us: the Day when His enemies — those who spent their lives in arrogance, disobedience, and rejection of the truth — will be gathered and driven toward the Fire of Hell. They will not arrive in chaos; rather, the keepers of Hell will restrain them, holding back the first until the last joins them, so that the entire host is assembled together, none of them able to escape or slip away. This is a day of utter helplessness for them, a day when all their power and pride in this world will vanish completely.
Imagine the terror of that moment: those who once walked the earth with arrogance, mocking the believers and denying the resurrection, will now be herded like a helpless flock toward a destination they cannot avoid. The angels of punishment will drive them with sternness, and they will be gathered in groups, their faces filled with dread, their hearts pounding with the realization that no excuse, no intercessor, and no escape remains for them.
This verse serves as a powerful reminder for us today. It calls us to examine our own lives: Are we among those who strive to be friends of Allah through obedience, or do our actions place us among His enemies? The choice is ours, and the outcome is certain. Allah, in His perfect justice, does not wrong anyone, but He has made clear the path of guidance and the path of ruin.
Let this verse be a wake-up call — a call to turn back to Allah in sincere repentance before that Day arrives, a call to soften our hearts with the remembrance of Him, and a call to live as those who love Allah and are loved by Him. For on that Day, the friends of Allah will be in peace and security, while His enemies will face a reckoning beyond imagination. May Allah make us among His beloved servants and save us from the terror of that gathering.
