Key Words and Their Meanings:
- "Miryah" (مِرْيَةٍ): Doubt, suspicion, or uncertainty that prevents one from reaching certainty.
- "Liqā’i Rabbihim" (لِقَاءِ رَبِّهِمْ): The meeting with their Lord, which refers to the resurrection and standing before Allah on the Day of Judgment.
- "Muḥīṭ" (مُحِيط): Encompassing, surrounding, or fully comprehending — here meaning that Allah’s knowledge and power encompass everything without exception.
Explanation of the Verse:
This verse serves as a decisive conclusion to the preceding arguments, turning the spotlight on the root cause of the disbelievers’ stubbornness. Allah declares: "Surely, they are in doubt about the meeting with their Lord." The word "miryah" indicates a deep-seated skepticism that has settled into their hearts, making them deny the resurrection and the Day of Reckoning. Because they doubt this meeting, they fail to prepare for it — they neither believe in the accountability of their deeds nor strive for righteous actions that would benefit them in the life to come. Their doubt is not based on evidence, for the signs of Allah’s power are all around them; rather, it is a willful blindness born of arrogance and attachment to this worldly life.
Then Allah follows this with a powerful reassurance and a warning: "Surely, He encompasses all things." This means that Allah’s knowledge covers every hidden and apparent matter, His power controls every atom in existence, and His will surrounds all creation — nothing escapes Him, not even the secrets buried in the hearts or the smallest movements in the universe. This statement is not merely informative; it carries a tone of threat and warning to those who doubt. They may think they can evade accountability, but the One who encompasses everything will certainly bring them back and hold them to account. Their doubt does not diminish His power; rather, it only seals their own fate.
A Call to Reflection and Faith:
Dear reader, pause and reflect on this profound truth. If Allah encompasses everything — your thoughts, your deeds, your past, your future — then how can you live as if you are not accountable? The doubt that the disbelievers harbor is a poison that destroys their peace and blinds them to the obvious signs of their Creator. But for the believer, the certainty of meeting Allah is a source of hope and motivation. It drives us to purify our intentions, to do good, and to seek His mercy. Let this verse awaken your heart: the meeting with your Lord is inevitable, and His encompassing knowledge and power guarantee that justice will prevail. So turn to Him now, before that meeting becomes a reality, and let your life be a preparation for the eternal life that awaits. Indeed, in remembering Allah and trusting in His encompassing care, hearts find true tranquility.
