Translation — Tafsir

Word Meanings:

  • Ikhtalaftum (اختلفتم): You differed or disputed.
  • Hukmuhu (حكمه): Its judgment, ruling, or decision.
  • Tawakkaltu (توكلت): I placed my trust and reliance.
  • Uneeb (أنيب): I turn back, return, or repent.

Tafsir (Explanation):

O people, whatever matter you differ upon—whether in matters of religion, its principles, or its branches—its final judgment belongs to Allah alone. This means that the resolution of any dispute must be sought through Allah’s Book (the Qur’an) and the Sunnah (the authentic teachings and practices) of His Messenger, peace and blessings be upon him. No human opinion, personal desire, or cultural tradition can override the divine ruling. Allah is the ultimate Judge, and His word is the decisive authority in all affairs.

This Allah—the One who possesses perfect attributes, who created you, who sent down the revelation, and who alone has the right to legislate—is my Lord and your Lord. He is the One upon whom I place my complete trust in all my matters, big and small. And to Him alone I turn back in repentance and submission, seeking His guidance and mercy in every situation.

This verse carries a profound message of unity and reliance on Allah. When disputes arise among people—whether between believers themselves or between believers and disbelievers—the solution is not found in conflict, arrogance, or following whims. Rather, it is found in returning to the divine revelation, which settles all matters with justice and wisdom. This teaches us that true peace comes from submitting to Allah’s judgment, for He knows what is best for His creation.

As a believer, this verse invites you to a beautiful state of heart: complete trust in Allah. When you place your affairs in His hands, your worries diminish, your heart finds rest, and your soul becomes content. You realize that the One who created you, who sustains you, and who knows your past, present, and future is more than capable of resolving every difficulty you face. So turn to Him sincerely, rely on Him wholeheartedly, and let your heart find tranquility in His remembrance and His decree. This is the path of true success in this life and the Hereafter.

📜 Verse 8-12 — Ash-Shura

And if Allah willed, He could have made them [of] one religion, but He admits whom He wills into His mercy. And the wrongdoers have not any protector or helper.
Or have they taken protectors [or allies] besides him? But Allah - He is the Protector, and He gives life to the dead, and He is over all things competent.
And in anything over which you disagree - its ruling is [to be referred] to Allah. [Say], "That is Allah, my Lord; upon Him I have relied, and to Him I turn back."
[He is] Creator of the heavens and the earth. He has made for you from yourselves, mates, and among the cattle, mates; He multiplies you thereby. There is nothing like unto Him, and He is the Hearing, the Seeing.
To Him belong the keys of the heavens and the earth. He extends provision for whom He wills and restricts [it]. Indeed He is, of all things, Knowing.
