Tafsir (Explanation):
This verse addresses a profound reality about those who take protectors and deities other than Allah—be they idols, false gods, or any beings they turn to for help, devotion, and allegiance. Allah, the Exalted, declares that He is the *Hafeez* over them: He watches over their every action, word, and intention, meticulously recording all that they do. Nothing escapes His knowledge, and no deed—whether hidden in the heart or displayed in the open—is ever lost. This divine watchfulness is not a mere observation; it is a precise accounting that will lead to perfect justice on the Day of Resurrection, when every soul will be recompensed exactly for what it earned.
The verse then turns to address the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) with a comforting and clarifying message: *"And you are not over them a Wakeel."* This means that the Prophet is not appointed as a guardian over these people, nor is he responsible for their choices, their faith, or their deeds. His mission is solely to convey the message of truth clearly and sincerely. He is a warner, not a warden; a deliverer of guidance, not a compeller of belief. The duty of calling to Allah ends with the delivery of the message, while the reckoning of hearts and deeds belongs exclusively to Allah.
This verse carries a profound lesson for every believer and caller to Islam. It relieves the heart of the burden of controlling outcomes—a burden that no human can bear. Your duty, dear reader, is to speak the truth with wisdom and kindness, to embody Islam in your character, and to trust that Allah is the ultimate Guardian of all affairs. He sees the sincerity of the believer and the defiance of the disbeliever alike, and His justice is absolute.
Yet, within this warning lies an invitation: if Allah is watching over all, then how fortunate are those who turn to Him as their Protector! For the believer, Allah's watchfulness is not a threat but a comfort—a promise that no good deed is ever wasted, no sincere prayer is ever unheard, and no struggle for His sake is ever forgotten. So, turn to Him alone, place your trust in Him alone, and find peace in knowing that the One who guards the heavens and the earth is also guarding your path to eternal success.
