Translation — Tafsir

Word Meanings:

  • Al-Mawtah al-Ūlā (الموتة الأولى): The first death, which every soul experiences upon leaving this worldly life.
  • Waqāhum (ووقاهم): Protected them, shielded them, and saved them.
  • Al-Jaḥīm (الجحيم): The blazing Fire of Hell, one of its most intense levels.

Tafsir (Explanation):

This verse paints a breathtaking portrait of the eternal bliss that awaits the righteous in Paradise. Allah, the Most Merciful, declares that the inhabitants of Paradise will never taste death again—the only death they experienced was the first one, which they endured in this worldly life as a necessary transition to the Hereafter. That was it. No more endings, no more farewells, no more partings. Their existence in Paradise is one of everlasting life, unbroken joy, and perpetual youth.

Moreover, Allah has graciously protected these God-conscious believers from the torment of the blazing Fire. This is not merely a reward for their deeds—it is a divine favor and mercy from their Lord, Who chose to shield them from what they feared and grant them what they longed for. The combination of eternal life and absolute safety from Hellfire is the ultimate triumph, the supreme success that no worldly achievement can ever match.

This verse serves as a powerful reminder that the trials of this life—including the inevitability of death—are but a fleeting chapter. For the believers who remain steadfast, what awaits is a reality so magnificent that the mind cannot fully comprehend it: a life without death, a peace without fear, and a joy without end. Let this inspire you to strive for that eternal abode, for the Prophet ﷺ taught us that the smartest person is the one who remembers death often and prepares for what comes after it. And what comes after it, for the righteous, is a promise from Allah that He never breaks.
