Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- Rahmatan — Mercy, compassion, and kindness.
- Min Rabbika — From your Lord (O Messenger).
- As-Samee' — The All-Hearing, Who hears all sounds and utterances without exception.
- Al-'Aleem — The All-Knowing, Who knows all matters, both apparent and hidden.
Explanation of the Verse:
This verse concludes the preceding statement about Allah sending messengers and revealing His books. It clarifies that the very act of sending the Messenger (peace be upon him) with the Qur'an, and the sending of all prophets before him, was itself an act of immense mercy from your Lord, O Muhammad, upon His creation. It was not because Allah needed them, nor because He was compelled to do so, but purely out of His grace and compassion for humanity — to guide them out of darkness into light, to warn them of what harms them, and to show them the path that leads to eternal success.
The verse then affirms two of Allah's most beautiful attributes: He is the All-Hearing — He hears every word, every whisper, every supplication, even the silent thoughts that pass through the heart; and the All-Knowing — He knows every action, every intention, every hidden secret, and everything that occurs in the heavens and the earth. Nothing escapes His hearing, and nothing is hidden from His knowledge.
This is a profound reminder for every believer: the One Who sent the messengers and revealed the scriptures is fully aware of how His creation responds. He hears the one who calls upon Him, and He knows the sincerity of every heart. So when you turn to Him in supplication, know that He hears you. When you strive in His cause, know that He sees your effort. And when you sin and seek His forgiveness, know that He is aware of your regret and His mercy encompasses you.
A Call to Reflection:
Dear reader, reflect on the greatness of this mercy. The Lord of the heavens and the earth, the All-Hearing and All-Knowing, chose to send you a guide — a messenger who would show you the way to happiness in this life and salvation in the next. This was not a random act; it was deliberate mercy, planned by the One Who knows exactly what you need. He heard your soul's cry for guidance before you even uttered it, and He knew that you would be lost without His revelation. So embrace this mercy, hold fast to this Qur'an, and let it transform your life. For the One Who sent it is the One Who hears your every prayer and knows your every struggle — and He will never abandon those who sincerely turn to Him.
