Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- Al-Hamd (الْحَمْدُ): Perfect praise and gratitude, acknowledging all blessings as coming from Allah alone, combined with love and reverence.
- Rabb (رَبِّ): The Lord, Master, and Sustainer—the One who creates, owns, and manages all affairs.
- Al-‘Ālamīn (الْعَالَمِينَ): All of creation—every being, realm, and world that exists, whether in the heavens, the earth, or between them.
Tafsir (Explanation):
To Allah alone belongs all praise and gratitude—praise that fills the heavens and the earth, praise that acknowledges His infinite blessings which no human can count or fully comprehend. He is the Lord of the heavens, the One who raised them without pillars, adorned them with stars, and set their courses with perfect precision. He is the Lord of the earth, who spread it as a dwelling place, made it firm with mountains, and brought forth from it every provision for His creatures. And He is the Lord of all the worlds—every species, every nation, every generation, every unseen realm—all are under His absolute dominion and care.
This verse is a declaration of pure monotheism, shattering every false claim of divinity. When all lordships are stripped away—when it is established that no idol, no star, no human, no power in existence has any share in creating, sustaining, or managing this universe—then praise naturally flows to the One true Lord alone. It is a statement that breaks the pride of those who worshipped stones and statues, for how can a carved rock be praised when it cannot even protect itself from decay? How can a dead being be thanked when it possesses nothing to give?
This praise is not merely words on the tongue; it is a recognition that every breath you take, every heartbeat, every meal you eat, every joy you experience—all of it comes from the hand of Allah alone. When you truly internalize this, your heart turns to Him in love, your tongue moves in gratitude, and your limbs obey His commands. The verse invites you to make your entire life an act of praise—by living in obedience to the One who deserves all thanks.
Da‘wah Reflection:
Dear reader, pause for a moment and look around you. The sky above, the earth beneath, the air you breathe, the body that serves you—who gave you all of this? Who sustains you every single second without you even asking? It is Allah—the Lord of the heavens, the Lord of the earth, the Lord of all worlds. And yet, He asks nothing from you except that you acknowledge Him, thank Him, and worship Him alone. Is that not the most reasonable and beautiful call? Islam is not a burden—it is the natural response of a grateful heart to its Creator. When you say "Alhamdulillah" (all praise is due to Allah), you are not just uttering words; you are aligning yourself with the truth of existence itself. Let this praise be your shield, your light, and your path to eternal success.
