Tafsir (Interpretation):
This verse continues the divine command to the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) to remain steadfast in worship and patience, especially in the face of hardship and opposition. After mentioning the glorification of Allah at the times of sunrise and sunset in the previous verse, Allah now instructs: "And during the night, glorify Him, and at the ends of prostration."
The phrase "during the night, glorify Him" refers to performing the night prayers, specifically the Maghrib (sunset) and Isha (night) prayers, as well as voluntary night worship (tahajjud). The night is a time of tranquility and closeness to Allah, when the distractions of the world fade and the heart can focus entirely on its Creator.
The phrase "at the ends of prostration" refers to the acts of glorification and remembrance of Allah that follow the obligatory prayers—the tasbih (saying SubhanAllah), tahmid (saying Alhamdulillah), takbir (saying Allahu Akbar), and the Sunnah prayers that come after the fard prayers, such as the two rak'ahs after Maghrib. It also encompasses the general remembrance of Allah throughout the day, as the believer constantly turns to Him in gratitude and praise.
This verse beautifully links the believer's worship across the entire day and night: from the dawn prayer to the afternoon prayer, from the evening prayers to the moments right after each prostration. It teaches us that worship is not confined to a single moment but is a continuous thread woven through every hour of our lives. The glorification of Allah is not merely an act of the tongue but a state of the heart—a recognition of His perfection, His greatness, and His absolute sovereignty over all affairs.
A Da'wah Reflection:
Dear believer, see how your Lord has made worship easy and accessible for you at every turn of the day! He does not ask you to exhaust yourself, but to remember Him in the moments that naturally punctuate your life—when you wake, when you work, when you rest, and after every prayer. These moments of remembrance are not burdens; they are lifelines. They cleanse your heart, elevate your soul, and bring you closer to the Most Merciful. The night prayer is your private conversation with Allah, and the post-prayer glorifications are your daily nourishment. Make them a habit, and you will find peace that no worldly matter can provide. For indeed, in the remembrance of Allah do hearts find rest (Ar-Ra'd 13:28). Let this verse inspire you to weave the glorification of Allah into every corner of your day, and you will witness how your life transforms into a continuous act of worship, filled with light, tranquility, and divine blessings.
