Translation — Tafsir
Key Words and Phrases:
- "Wa-stami'" (وَاسْتَمِعْ): "And listen" — a direct command to the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), and by extension to all who hear this message, to pay full attention with the ears of the heart.
- "Yawma yunādi al-munādi" (يَوْمَ يُنَادِ الْمُنَادِ): "The Day when the caller calls out" — this refers to the second blowing of the Trumpet (Sur) by the angel Israfil, which will raise all of creation from their graves for the Day of Judgment.
- "Min makānin qarīb" (مِن مَّكَانٍ قَرِيبٍ): "From a place near" — meaning the call will be so close and so clear that every single soul, whether in the heavens or the earth, will hear it without any barrier or distance.
The Interpretation:
O Prophet, and O every human being who reads or hears these words — open your ears and your heart, and listen with full awareness to the reality of that Day which is inevitable. On that Day, the angel entrusted with the Trumpet — Israfil, peace be upon him — will blow the second blast, and his call will resound from a place so near that no ear will miss it, no heart will be able to ignore it, and no distance will weaken its clarity. It will be a call of resurrection and gathering, a call that will pierce through every barrier and reach every creature, whether buried deep in the earth or scattered across the horizons. This is the Day when all people will rise from their graves, responding to the command of their Lord, with no excuse, no escape, and no delay.
This verse is not merely a piece of historical information — it is a living invitation for you, right now, to reflect. If you truly listened to that call today with the ears of your heart, you would prepare for it before it arrives. The One who commanded the angel to call you on that Day is the same One who is calling you today through His Book, through His signs in the universe, and through the voice of your own conscience. He is near — nearer than you think. So do not let the noise of this world drown out the call of truth. Respond to your Lord now, with sincere repentance and righteous deeds, so that when the caller calls from that near place, you will be among those who rise in peace, not in panic.
Beloved reader, this verse is a mercy from Allah — He is telling you in advance so that you may not be caught unaware. The Day will come suddenly, but its signs and its certainty are already before you. Let this verse be a turning point in your life: listen to the call of faith today, and you will never fear the call of that Day. For the One who is near to you now — in this very moment, hearing your thoughts and seeing your heart — will be the One who saves you on that Day, if you turn to Him sincerely.
