Translation — Tafsir

Key Words and Their Meanings:

  • "Anfusikum" (أَنفُسِكُمْ): Your own selves, your beings, your very existence.
  • "Tubsirun" (تُبْصِرُونَ): Do you not see, perceive, or reflect with insight — not just physical sight, but deep, contemplative vision.

The Interpretation:

After pointing to the signs of God’s power spread across the earth and heavens, Allah turns your attention inward — to the most intimate and ever-present miracle: your own self. He says: *"And in yourselves — do you not then see?"*

Look at the intricate design of your own body and soul. Consider the flawless systems working within you every moment without your conscious command — the heartbeat that never pauses, the lungs that breathe in rhythm, the brain that processes millions of signals each second, the eyes that translate light into images, the ears that turn vibrations into sound. Reflect on how you grow from a tiny drop into a fully formed human being, how you pass through stages — from weakness to strength, then back to weakness — and how every cell in your body testifies to a Wise and Powerful Creator.

Your very existence is a living proof of Allah’s oneness and His absolute power. The way your body changes, develops, and ultimately decays points to a Maker who controls life and death. The soul within you — its emotions, thoughts, and consciousness — cannot be explained by mere matter; it is a breath from your Lord.

So why do you turn away? Why do you gaze at the horizons but ignore the miracle within you? The call is gentle yet profound: "Do you not see?" — not with the eyes of the head, but with the eyes of the heart. If you truly saw, you would recognize your Creator, submit to Him, and live in gratitude for the countless blessings He has placed within you.

This verse is an invitation to self-reflection — a journey inward that leads to faith. Every breath you take, every blink of your eye, every beat of your heart is a sign calling you back to your Lord. The One who fashioned you so perfectly is worthy of your worship, your love, and your obedience. Open your inner sight, and you will find the truth written not only in the universe around you, but in the very depths of your being.

And from their properties was [given] the right of the [needy] petitioner and the deprived.
And on the earth are signs for the certain [in faith]
And in yourselves. Then will you not see?
And in the heaven is your provision and whatever you are promised.
Then by the Lord of the heaven and earth, indeed, it is truth - just as [sure as] it is that you are speaking.
