Word Meanings:

  • "Wa fi al-sama'i rizqukum" — "And in the heaven is your provision": This refers to the rain that descends from the sky, which is the primary cause of sustenance on earth, as well as all that is decreed and apportioned for creation.
  • "Wa ma tu'adun" — "And that which you are promised": This includes everything that has been ordained and written — whether good or evil, reward or punishment, Paradise or Hellfire — all of which is recorded in the heavenly tablet (al-Lawh al-Mahfuz).

Explanation of the Verse:

This noble verse directs the hearts of mankind toward the heavens, drawing their attention to the absolute power and wisdom of Allah. It declares that your sustenance — the provision that sustains your life, your food, your drink, and all that you depend upon — is decreed in the heaven. The rain that falls from the sky, which revives the earth and brings forth fruits and crops, is but a manifestation of that heavenly decree. Likewise, everything you have been promised — whether the glad tidings of Paradise for the believers, the warnings of Hellfire for the disbelievers, or the appointed times of death and resurrection — is all recorded and written in the heaven, known to Allah before it ever comes to pass.

This verse serves as a profound reminder that nothing occurs in this universe except by the will and decree of Allah. Your provision is not left to chance or human effort alone; rather, it is fixed and guaranteed by the One who created the heavens and the earth. The One who hung the stars and set the sun and moon in their courses is the same One who has taken it upon Himself to provide for every living creature. So why, then, does the human heart worry and fret over sustenance? Why does it chase after worldly gains with anxiety and fear, when the Provider has already written every portion in the sky?

A Call to Reflection and Faith:

Dear reader, look up at the sky above you — that vast expanse that stretches endlessly before your eyes. Within it lies your provision, your destiny, and your ultimate return. The same sky that sends down rain to nourish the earth also holds the record of your deeds and your final abode. This is not a matter of blind faith, but of certain knowledge for those who reflect. When you truly internalize this truth, your heart finds rest, your worries diminish, and your trust in Allah deepens. You realize that the One who has taken charge of your provision in the heavens will never abandon you on the earth.

So turn to your Lord with a sincere heart, seek your provision through lawful means, and place your complete trust in Him. For He has already written your sustenance in the highest heavens, and He will surely deliver it to you in the appointed time. And remember that beyond this worldly provision lies something far greater — the promise of Paradise for those who believe and do righteous deeds. That, too, is recorded in the heaven, awaiting those who strive for it. May Allah make us among those who trust in His decree and strive for His eternal reward.

📜 Verse 20-24 — Adh-Dhariyat

And on the earth are signs for the certain [in faith]
And in yourselves. Then will you not see?
And in the heaven is your provision and whatever you are promised.
Then by the Lord of the heaven and earth, indeed, it is truth - just as [sure as] it is that you are speaking.
Has there reached you the story of the honored guests of Abraham? -
