Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- "Wa Rabb" – By the Lord (an oath sworn by Allah upon Himself).
- "La Haqq" – It is certainly true, with no doubt or uncertainty.
- "Mithl ma annakum tantiqoon" – Just as you are certain that you speak; an analogy using the most undeniable human experience.
Tafsir (Explanation):
In this verse, Allah—glorified and exalted—swears by His own majestic Self, the Lord of the heavens and the earth, to affirm the absolute truth of what He has promised His servants. The oath is not by any created thing, but by the Creator Himself, which is the greatest and most solemn oath possible. The content of this oath is that the Resurrection, the Reckoning, and the recompense of deeds—whether good or evil—are all undeniably true.
Allah makes this truth as clear and certain as the very act of speech you perform every day. When you speak, you do not doubt that you are speaking; you do not question the words that leave your lips. In the same way, you should have no doubt whatsoever about the coming of the Day of Judgment and the truth of Allah's promise. Just as your tongue moves and produces sounds without any effort of deliberation, so too is the reality of the Hereafter established and certain.
This verse comes as a powerful reassurance to the believers and a stern warning to the deniers. It removes every excuse for doubt and calls upon the human mind to reflect: if you can trust your own speech without hesitation, why do you hesitate to trust the word of the Lord of the heavens and the earth? The One who created the vast universe, who raised the skies without pillars and spread the earth beneath your feet—how could His promise be anything less than absolute truth?
A Call to Reflection:
Dear reader, pause and consider this beautiful oath. Allah did not need to swear by anything, yet He swore by Himself to bring tranquility to your heart. He compared the certainty of the Hereafter to the certainty of your own speech—something so natural that you never question it. This is an invitation to strengthen your faith and to live your life with the awareness that every deed you do, every word you utter, and every thought you harbor is witnessed and will be accounted for.
Let this verse be a source of hope for the righteous, who strive in the path of Allah, and a wake-up call for the heedless, who live as if they will never be brought back to life. The One who gave you the ability to speak is the same One who will raise you from your graves. So let your speech be a means of goodness, and let your certainty in the Hereafter guide your actions toward what pleases your Lord. Indeed, the promise of Allah is true, and His word is the highest truth of all.
