Word Meanings:
- "Fa-akhrajna" (فَأَخْرَجْنَا): We brought out or delivered, indicating a divine act of rescue and salvation.
- "Man kana feeha" (مَن كَانَ فِيهَا): Those who were in it — referring to the towns of Prophet Lot’s people (the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah).
- "Mina al-mu'minin" (مِنَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ): From among the believers — those who had faith in Allah and believed in the message of Prophet Lot (peace be upon him).
Explanation of the Verse:
In this noble verse, Allah (Glorified and Exalted be He) tells us about His mercy and justice during the punishment that befell the people of Prophet Lot. When the divine decree came to destroy that wicked community for their grave sins, Allah commanded His angels to first extract and save every single believer who was present in those towns. These were the people who had sincerely embraced the faith brought by Prophet Lot and followed his guidance, even though they were few in number amidst a society steeped in corruption and immorality.
The verse beautifully demonstrates that Allah’s mercy precedes His wrath. Before any punishment descends, He ensures the safety of His righteous servants. The believers were taken out of that environment of sin and destruction so that they would not be harmed by the torment that struck the wrongdoers. This was a divine act of protection, showing that Allah never lets the faithful perish with the guilty, and He always knows who truly believes in their hearts.
This also highlights the immense value of faith in the sight of Allah. Even a small group of believers, living among a corrupt majority, is precious enough for Allah to intervene and save them specially. Their faith was their shield, and their trust in Allah was their salvation.
A Da'wah Reflection:
This verse carries a profound and comforting message for every believer in every age: no matter how surrounded you are by sin, corruption, or disbelief, your faith connects you to the protection of the Almighty. Allah sees your struggle to remain steadfast, and He will never abandon you. Just as He rescued the believers from the midst of Lot’s people, He will always find a way to deliver those who hold firm to His path. Let this inspire you to remain patient and constant in your faith, even when the world around you seems overwhelming. Your sincerity with Allah is never wasted — it is the very key to His mercy and salvation. And remember, the ultimate victory is always for the believers, both in this life and in the Hereafter.
