Surah Adh-Dhariyat — Verse 34

This verse continues the account of Prophet Ibrahim (peace be upon him) and the angels who were sent to destroy the wicked people of Prophet Lut (peace be upon him). When Ibrahim asked the angels about their mission, they informed him that they had been sent to a guilty people who had persisted in their crimes and disbelief. The punishment destined for them was to be carried out by stones of hardened clay — stones that were marked with the name of each person they were meant to strike, so that no one would escape their appointed fate. These stones were with your Lord — meaning they were prepared and decreed by Allah’s command, kept ready for the transgressors — those who had crossed every limit in their corruption, arrogance, and defiance of Allah’s commandments.

The marking of the stones serves a profound purpose: it demonstrates that Allah’s justice is precise and perfect. No innocent person would be harmed, and no guilty person would escape. Instead, be among those who hasten to goodness, who fear Allah in private and public, and who strive to live a life pleasing to Him. The same Lord who sent down punishment upon the wicked is the Lord who opens the doors of forgiveness for the repentant. Choose His mercy before His justice becomes your fate.
