Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- اصْلَوْهَا (Islawha): Enter it and experience its heat; endure its burning.
- فَاصْبِرُوا (Fasbiru): Be patient and steadfast in bearing it.
- سَوَاءٌ عَلَيْكُمْ (Sawa'un 'alaykum): It is all the same to you; it makes no difference.
- إِنَّمَا تُجْزَوْنَ (Innama tujzawna): You are only being recompensed and repaid.
Tafsir (Explanation):
On that dreadful Day, the disbelievers will be commanded with a stern, unyielding order: "Enter the Fire and taste its scorching blaze!" Then they are told, whether you bear this torment with patience or you refuse to be patient, it is completely the same for you—neither will bring you any relief, nor will it shorten your punishment, nor will it grant you an exit from it. Your endurance will not benefit you, and your despair will not save you. The doors of escape are sealed, and the mercy of relief is cut off.
Why is this so? Because this is not an arbitrary punishment; it is the perfect, just recompense for what your own hands sent forth in the worldly life. You reaped in the Hereafter exactly what you sowed in this world—your disbelief, your sins, your rejection of the truth, and your persistence in wrongdoing. The punishment matches the deed, and the justice of Allah is absolute and flawless.
This verse carries a profound and sobering message for every soul: the deeds of this life are not without consequence. Every action, every word, every intention is recorded and will be weighed. For the believer, this is a call to wake up—to rush towards repentance, to embrace the mercy of Allah before the doors of this world close, and to live a life that pleases the Creator. For the one who is heedless, it is a warning that no patience or impatience will avail on that Day; only faith and righteous deeds will be the saving grace.
Yet, in His infinite mercy, Allah has not left us without a way out. He sent the Quran as a guide, the Prophet ﷺ as a mercy, and the door of repentance open until the final moment of our lives. So seize this opportunity now, turn back to Allah with a sincere heart, and let this warning be the spark that ignites a transformation in your life—from heedlessness to devotion, from sin to obedience, and from distance to closeness with your Lord. For the Fire is real, but so is the Paradise that awaits those who believe and do good. Choose wisely, for the choice you make today determines your eternal tomorrow.
