- كَأْسًا (Ka’san): A cup or vessel filled with drink — here, referring to the wine of Paradise.

- تَأْثِيمٌ (Ta’thīm): Sinful speech or actions; words or deeds that incur blame or wrongdoing.
Explanation of the Verse:
In this blessed verse, Allah describes another exquisite delight reserved for the dwellers of Paradise — a scene of pure joy and perfect companionship. The righteous believers will pass around cups of wine to one another in a spirit of mutual love and generosity, each one offering the cup to his brother, creating an atmosphere of warmth and heartfelt connection. This is not the wine of this world, with its harmful consequences and fleeting pleasures. Rather, it is a celestial drink, utterly pure and sublime.
The verse emphasizes two key distinctions from worldly wine: no laghw — meaning no vain, foolish, or nonsensical chatter will result from drinking it — and no ta’thīm — meaning no sinful speech, no lies, no slander, and no actions that incur blame. In this world, intoxicants cloud the mind, loosen the tongue, and lead people to utter words they later regret or commit deeds that bring shame. But the wine of Paradise is entirely different: it does not impair the intellect, nor does it stir any base desires. Instead, it enhances the joy of the heart, deepens the bonds of brotherhood, and fills the soul with serenity and contentment.
This is a profound reminder that Allah, in His infinite mercy, does not forbid His servants from enjoyment — rather, He purifies it. He grants His righteous servants in the Hereafter every delight they ever yearned for, but in its most perfect and untainted form. The believers will drink and rejoice, yet remain fully conscious, fully dignified, and fully at peace — a state of bliss that no earthly pleasure can ever match.
A Call to Reflection and Action:
Dear reader, contemplate this magnificent scene: eternal happiness without any regret, joy without any sorrow, and companionship without any discord. This is the reward that awaits those who strive in the path of Allah and restrain their desires in this world. The temporary pleasures of this life — including the fleeting intoxication of worldly drinks — come with heavy prices: wasted time, damaged health, broken relationships, and a heavy heart. But the pleasures of the Hereafter are pure, lasting, and free from all harm.
Let this verse inspire you to seek the eternal bliss of Paradise. Every time you are tempted by a fleeting worldly pleasure, remember that Allah has prepared something far better for those who are patient and obedient. The cup of Paradise is waiting — but it is only for those who choose the path of righteousness today. May Allah make us among those who will drink from that blessed cup in the company of the Prophets, the truthful, and the martyrs — and may He grant us the wisdom to prefer the eternal over the temporary.
