Translation — Tafsir

Word Meanings:

(Al-Barr): The One Who is exceedingly kind, benevolent, and gracious to His servants; the One Who fulfills His promises and does abundant good.
(Ar-Raheem): The Most Merciful, the One whose mercy is immense and continuous, especially toward the believers.

Tafsir (Explanation):

In this blessed verse, the people of Paradise are speaking, sharing with one another the secret of how they attained this eternal bliss. They say: "Indeed, we used to call upon Him before" — meaning, before this Day of Judgment, during our life in the worldly abode, we used to worship Him alone, sincerely, without associating any partner with Him. We would raise our hands in supplication, humbly begging Him to protect us from the torment of Hellfire and to guide us to His pleasure.

They continue: "Indeed, He is Al-Barr, Ar-Raheem" — He is the One Who is truly kind and benevolent to His servants, always fulfilling His promises, and He is the Most Merciful, whose mercy encompasses everything. It was out of His kindness and mercy that He accepted their supplication, guided them to faith, and granted them what they asked for: safety from the scorching fire and entry into the everlasting gardens of delight.

So, dear reader, see how the believers in Paradise attribute their success not to their own deeds, but to the grace and mercy of their Lord. They acknowledge that it was His kindness that led them, His mercy that saved them, and His generosity that rewarded them. This is the beautiful relationship between the servant and his Lord: the servant calls upon his Lord with humility and sincerity, and the Lord responds with kindness and mercy.

A Da'wah Reflection:

This verse teaches us a profound lesson: the key to Paradise is not merely performing rituals, but developing a living, personal connection with Allah through sincere supplication. The people of Paradise were not those who never sinned, but those who never stopped calling upon their Lord. They recognized their weakness and His strength; their poverty and His richness; their need and His generosity.

So, my beloved brother and sister in humanity, let this be an invitation to you: call upon Allah, the Most Kind, the Most Merciful, in every moment of your life. Whether in times of ease or hardship, raise your hands to Him and ask Him for the greatest gift — His pleasure and His Paradise. For He has promised in His Book: "Call upon Me; I will respond to you" (Ghafir: 60). And when He, Al-Barr, Ar-Raheem, makes a promise, He never breaks it. He is the One whose mercy precedes His wrath, whose kindness overflows to all who seek Him. Do not let this opportunity pass — your Lord is waiting for your call, eager to shower you with His mercy and to grant you what no eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no human heart has ever imagined.

📜 Verse 26-30 — At-Tur

They will say, "Indeed, we were previously among our people fearful [of displeasing Allah].
So Allah conferred favor upon us and protected us from the punishment of the Scorching Fire.
Indeed, we used to supplicate Him before. Indeed, it is He who is the Beneficent, the Merciful."
So remind [O Muhammad], for you are not, by the favor of your Lord, a soothsayer or a madman.
Or do they say [of you], "A poet for whom we await a misfortune of time?"
