Translation — Tafsir

Word Meanings:

  • يُجْزَاهُ: He will be recompensed or rewarded for it.
  • الْجَزَاءَ الْأَوْفَى: The most complete, full, and perfect recompense — nothing less than what is due, with no deficiency or injustice.

Explanation of the Verse:

This verse completes the previous statement about human striving and effort. It tells us that after a person strives and works in this life — whether for good or for evil — they will not be left without consequence. Rather, their deeds are recorded, and then on the Day of Judgment, they will be given their full and complete reward or punishment. The word "أوفى" (al-awfā) emphasizes that this recompense is not partial or diminished; it is the most perfect and complete settlement of all that a person did. No good deed will be wasted, and no evil deed will be ignored. Every action, no matter how small, will be accounted for with absolute justice.

This is a profound source of comfort and motivation for the believer. It means that your efforts in this world — your prayers, your kindness, your patience, your struggles to do what is right — are never lost. Allah, the Most Just and Most Merciful, has promised to repay you in full, in a way that exceeds your expectations. Even if people forget what you did, or fail to appreciate it, Allah never forgets. He is the One who sees every hidden sacrifice and every silent tear shed in devotion to Him.

At the same time, this verse carries a gentle but firm warning: just as good deeds will be fully rewarded, so too will bad deeds be fully accounted for. This should inspire us to be mindful of our actions, to repent for our shortcomings, and to race toward goodness with sincerity.

A Call to Reflection:

Dear reader, imagine the generosity of your Lord! He does not need your worship, yet He promises to repay you with the most complete reward. He could have given you less, but He chose to give you "the fullest" — a reward that encompasses all your deeds and multiplies them beyond measure. This is the beauty of Islam: a religion that gives meaning to every moment of your life and assures you that your efforts are never in vain. Let this verse fill your heart with hope and determination. Strive for the sake of Allah, and trust that His promise is true. For indeed, the Day of Judgment is not a day of fear for the righteous — it is the day when their patience and faith will shine, and they will receive what no eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no human heart can imagine.
