The Tafsir (Explanation):
This verse continues the story of Prophet Lot (peace be upon him) and his people, who were immersed in immorality and disobedience. Allah tells us that Lot, out of deep compassion and sincere concern for his people, warned them clearly and repeatedly about the terrible punishment that would befall them if they persisted in their sinful ways. He spoke of Allah’s "bat'sha" — that awe-inspiring, overwhelming grip with which Allah seizes those who defy Him, a punishment that leaves no trace of the wrongdoers.
Yet, despite this clear and earnest warning, the response of his people was not repentance or fear. Instead, they met his admonition with skepticism and mockery. They argued among themselves, doubting the truth of his message, and treated his warnings as empty threats. They said, in essence, "This is just a man trying to scare us," and they turned his sincere advice into a subject of dispute and ridicule. Their arrogance and stubbornness blinded them to the reality of the danger that was fast approaching.
This verse serves as a powerful reminder of the fate of those who reject the warnings of Allah's messengers. The prophets did not come to burden people, but to save them from destruction. When warnings are met with denial and argumentation, the door of mercy closes, and justice takes its course. The story of Lot’s people is not merely history; it is a timeless lesson that the punishment of Allah is real, and that no one should take His warnings lightly. How fortunate are those who heed the call of truth before it is too late, and how tragic are those who argue with it until the moment of reckoning arrives. Let this be an invitation to every soul to reflect: when you hear the truth, do you embrace it with humility, or do you let pride lead you to dispute it? The choice you make today shapes your tomorrow — both in this world and the next.
