Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- ʿadhābī (My punishment): The severe, painful retribution sent by Allah upon those who persist in disbelief and transgression.
- nudhur (My warnings): The repeated admonitions and alerts conveyed through the prophets, which were ignored or mocked.
Explanation of the Verse:
This verse addresses the people of the prophet Lot (peace be upon him) after the punishment of Allah descended upon them at dawn. The punishment was a devastating calamity: their towns were turned upside down, and they were pelted with stones of baked clay, a torment that was continuous and permanent, leading them ultimately to the even greater punishment of the Hereafter. It was said to them, in a manner of rebuke and humiliation: "Taste now My punishment that I have sent upon you as a result of your disbelief and your denial of the truth, and taste the outcome of the warnings that were delivered to you through Lot, which you rejected and ridiculed."
This divine statement carries profound lessons for humanity. It demonstrates that Allah's warnings are true and inevitable, and that His punishment is just and swift for those who persist in arrogance and sin. The verse also highlights the mercy of Allah in sending warnings before punishment, giving people the chance to repent and return to Him. Yet, when warnings are ignored, the consequence becomes unavoidable.
A Call to Reflection:
Dear reader, this verse is not merely a historical account; it is a living reminder for every generation. It calls upon us to open our hearts to the warnings of Allah found in the Qur'an and the teachings of His final Messenger, Muhammad (peace be upon him). How fortunate are those who heed the call before it is too late! The door of repentance remains open, and Allah's mercy is vast. Do not let your heart become hardened like those who tasted the punishment after rejecting the truth. Embrace the guidance of Islam today, and you will find peace in this life and salvation in the next. For Allah, the Most Merciful, delights in the return of His servants and forgives all sins for those who sincerely turn to Him.
