Translation — Tafsir

Word Meanings:

  • Dhawaataa (ذَوَاتَا): Meaning "possessing" or "having" — used here for the dual form, referring to the two gardens mentioned in the preceding verses.
  • Afnaan (أَفْنَانٍ): The plural of *fann* (فَنّ), meaning branches or boughs. Specifically, it refers to long, straight, and lush branches that are full of leaves and fruit, extending gracefully.

Explanation of the Verse:

After describing the two gardens prepared for the righteous, Allah, the Most Merciful, now highlights one of their most striking features: these two gardens are "possessors of abundant, flourishing branches." The branches are not merely dry or sparse; rather, they are fresh, verdant, and laden with fruits and produce, extending in all directions to provide shade, beauty, and sustenance. The imagery evokes a scene of perfect vitality and abundance — a garden where every branch teems with life, offering endless delight to its inhabitants. This description emphasizes the generosity of Allah’s reward: He does not give merely a garden, but one overflowing with greenery, fruit, and comfort, as a fitting recompense for those who feared standing before Him and strove in obedience.

A Call to Reflection and Gratitude:

Dear believer, pause and reflect: if the gardens of this world — with their limited branches and fleeting fruits — bring such joy and peace to the heart, what then must be the state of those gardens whose branches are described by the All-Knowing, All-Wise? This verse invites you to long for that eternal abode, to purify your intentions, and to increase your good deeds. Let this beautiful description stir within you a deep love for Allah, who has prepared such delights for His faithful servants. And remember, the path to these gardens is not distant — it begins with a sincere heart, a truthful tongue, and righteous actions. So strive, and let the hope of these flourishing branches motivate you to seek His pleasure in every moment of your life. Indeed, Allah’s mercy is vast, and His reward is beyond imagination.
