Translation — Tafsir

Word Meanings:

  • Jazā'an (جَزَاءً): A reward or recompense given in return for deeds.
  • Bimā kānū ya'malūn (بِمَا كَانُوا يَعْمَلُونَ): For what they used to do — referring to their righteous actions performed in the worldly life.

Explanation of the Verse:

This verse concludes the description of the bliss that awaits the righteous in Paradise. After mentioning the delights of Paradise — the fruits they choose, the bird meat they desire, the beautiful companions with wide, enchanting eyes likened to preserved pearls — Allah clarifies the reason behind all these blessings: they are a fitting reward for the good deeds these believers performed during their earthly lives.

The reward is not random or undeserved; it is a direct consequence of their faith and righteous actions. Every prayer, every act of charity, every word of truth, every moment of patience, and every deed done sincerely for Allah's sake has been recorded and is now being repaid in the most generous manner. The scale of the reward far exceeds the deeds themselves, reflecting Allah's boundless mercy and generosity — yet it is still presented as a "reward," showing that Allah values even the smallest acts of His servants.

This verse also carries a profound lesson: the life of this world is a field for the Hereafter. What we sow today, we harvest tomorrow. The believers who endured trials, resisted temptations, and strove in obedience to Allah are now enjoying the fruits of their perseverance. Their joy is not merely physical but deeply spiritual, knowing that their Lord has accepted their efforts and honored them with His grace.

A Call to Reflection:

Dear reader, this verse invites you to ponder: what are you working for today? The people of Paradise worked for something eternal, and their reward never ends. If we desire such a reward, we must align our intentions and actions with what pleases Allah. The door of repentance and good deeds is always open — no matter your past, you can begin today to sow seeds that will blossom into everlasting happiness. Let this verse inspire you to strive for the highest ranks, for Allah's reward is beyond imagination, and His generosity knows no bounds.

22وَحُورٌ عِينٌ
And [for them are] fair women with large, [beautiful] eyes,
23كَأَمْثَالِ اللُّؤْلُؤِ الْمَكْنُونِ
The likenesses of pearls well-protected,
24جَزَاءً بِمَا كَانُوا يَعْمَلُونَ
As reward for what they used to do.
25لَا يَسْمَعُونَ فِيهَا لَغْوًا وَلَا تَأْثِيمًا
They will not hear therein ill speech or commission of sin -

Only a saying: "Peace, peace."
