Surah Al-An'am — Verse 36

• يَسْتَجِيبُ (Yastajeeb): Responds, answers, or accepts the call with compliance and willingness.
• يَسْمَعُونَ (Yasma‘oon): Those who hear with attentive hearts and minds, not merely with their ears, but with the readiness to accept the truth.
• الْمَوْتَى (Al-Mawta): The dead — here referring metaphorically to the disbelievers whose hearts are spiritually lifeless, as well as literally to the dead who will be resurrected.

Tafsir (Explanation):

O noble Messenger, only those who truly listen with open hearts and sound minds will respond to your call of guidance and accept the message you bring. These are the believers who hear the truth, understand it, and embrace it with sincerity. As for the disbelievers, they are like the dead — their hearts have become hardened and lifeless, unable to perceive the light of faith or benefit from the words of guidance. Just as a dead body cannot hear or respond, so too are those who have sealed their hearts against the truth.

Yet, do not grieve over their state, for Allah — in His perfect wisdom and justice — will resurrect all the dead from their graves on the Day of Judgment. He will bring them back to life, and then to Him alone will they all return. On that Day, every soul will be held accountable for what it has done, and each will receive its just recompense — whether good or evil. The disbelievers who rejected the truth will face the consequences of their denial, while the believers who responded to the call will be rewarded with eternal bliss.

Indeed, the best investment you can make is in your own soul — and the return is nothing less than Paradise.
