Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- Nakeer (نَكِيرِ): My disapproval, rejection, and the severe punishment that follows upon it. It signifies Allah's intense anger and His decisive response to those who deny His messengers.
Tafsir (Explanation):
Allah, the Exalted, addresses the disbelievers of Makkah and reminds them that they are not the first to reject the truth. Many nations before them—such as the people of Nuh (Noah), 'Ad, Thamud, and others—also denied their prophets and persisted in their disbelief and arrogance. They were given time and opportunities to repent, yet they refused. So how was Allah's punishment upon them? It was a severe, overwhelming, and unmistakable retribution. He stripped them of their blessings, destroyed their civilizations, and left their ruins as a lesson for those who would reflect.
This verse serves as both a consolation to the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and a stern warning to his people. It reassures the believers that the path of truth, though opposed, is ultimately victorious, and that Allah's justice is inevitable. No matter how powerful or numerous the disbelievers may seem, they are utterly powerless before the might of their Creator.
A Da'wah Reflection:
Dear reader, ponder deeply upon this verse. History is not merely a collection of stories; it is a mirror of divine justice. The very nations that once boasted of their strength and mocked the messengers are now nothing but forgotten tales and scattered ruins. Yet, the message of truth remains standing, shining across centuries.
This is an invitation for you to open your heart to the Quran and the final Messenger, Muhammad (peace be upon him). Do not let pride or stubbornness blind you as it blinded those before you. The same Allah who destroyed the tyrants of old is alive today, hearing your prayers and watching your choices. He does not wish to punish you; He wishes for you to succeed. But if you turn away, know that His warning is real, and His mercy is reserved for those who hasten to Him before it is too late. Embrace the light of guidance now, and you will find peace in this life and salvation in the next.
