Then We would have cut from him the aorta.

Translation — Tafsir

Word Meanings:

  • Al-Wateen (الْوَتِين): The aorta — the major artery that is attached to the heart and supplies it with blood. If it is severed, death is immediate and unavoidable.

Explanation of the Verse:

This verse continues the powerful warning that follows the previous one. Allah is addressing the hypothetical situation where the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) had fabricated any words and attributed them to Allah falsely. After stating that Allah would seize him by the right hand — a sign of strength, authority, and complete control — this verse adds: "Then We would have cut from him the aorta."

This means that Allah would have ended his life instantly and completely. The aorta is the lifeline of the heart; severing it leaves no chance of survival, no time for repentance, and no possibility of rescue. This is a vivid and terrifying image that demonstrates the absolute seriousness of attributing falsehood to Allah. It also shows that even the most beloved of Allah’s creation — the Prophet himself — would not be spared if he were to do such a thing. This is not because Allah doubts His Prophet, but rather to establish the ultimate sanctity of divine revelation and to warn all of humanity that the Quran is protected and pure, free from any human interpolation.

The verse also carries a profound reassurance for the believers: since the Prophet was truthful and the Quran is authentic, the message stands firm and unshaken. No one can alter it, and no power can stop Allah’s justice from reaching those who lie about Him.

A Call to Reflection and Faith:

Dear reader, ponder the greatness of this Quran. It is a book that Allah Himself guards and defends. The very idea of falsehood being mixed into it is so impossible that Allah describes the extreme consequence — the cutting of the life-vein — to make us realize how sacred and protected this revelation truly is. This should fill your heart with certainty and love for this divine guidance. When you recite the Quran, know that you are holding the pure word of your Creator, untouched by any error, and preserved for your guidance until the end of time. Let this verse increase your trust in Allah’s promise, and let it inspire you to live by the Quran’s teachings, for it is the rope of Allah that leads to success in this life and the next.

📜 Verse 44-48 — Al-Haqqah

And if Muhammad had made up about Us some [false] sayings,
We would have seized him by the right hand;
Then We would have cut from him the aorta.
And there is no one of you who could prevent [Us] from him.
And indeed, the Qur'an is a reminder for the righteous.
