Word Meanings:
- لَأَخَذْنَا (La-akhadhna): We would have seized or taken hold.
- مِنْهُ (Minhu): From him.
- بِالْيَمِينِ (Bil-yameen): By the right hand — meaning with power, strength, and might. In Arabic, the right side is associated with strength and capability.
Explanation of the Verse:
This verse comes in the context of a severe warning directed at the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) — not because he ever did such a thing, but as a hypothetical statement to emphasize the absolute truthfulness of the divine revelation. Allah is saying: If the Prophet had falsely attributed any words to Allah that were not revealed to him, then Allah would have seized him by the right hand — meaning He would have taken him with full force and power, demonstrating that no one, not even the most beloved of creation, could escape Allah's justice or stand against His might.
The phrase "by the right hand" in Arabic culture signifies strength and authority, as the right side is where power resides. It conveys that Allah would have dealt with him decisively and forcefully, cutting off any falsehood at its root. This is not a reflection on the Prophet's character — rather, it is a powerful rhetorical device that establishes the absolute authenticity of the Qur'an. If the Prophet were a liar or fabricator, divine punishment would have been swift and inescapable.
This verse reassures believers that the Qur'an is pure divine revelation, free from any human interpolation or error. It also serves as a profound lesson: Allah's justice is absolute, and His power is beyond compare. No one — regardless of their status or position — can alter His words or escape His reckoning.
A Call to Reflection and Faith:
Dear reader, ponder the greatness of this divine guarantee. The Qur'an that we hold in our hands today is the same unaltered word of Allah that was revealed over fourteen centuries ago. Its preservation is a testament to Allah's promise: "Indeed, it is We who sent down the Qur'an, and indeed, We will be its guardian" (Al-Hijr: 9). This verse invites you to approach the Qur'an with certainty and trust, knowing that every letter in it is from your Lord. Let this certainty draw you closer to Allah, increase your love for His book, and motivate you to live by its teachings. For in the Qur'an lies your guidance, your healing, and your salvation — both in this life and the next. Embrace it with an open heart, and you will find peace that transcends all worldly concerns.
