Translation — Tafsir

Word Meanings:

  • فَاصْبِرْ (Fa-sbir): So be patient — endure with steadfastness and self-restraint.
  • صَبْرًا جَمِيلًا (Sabran Jameelaa): Beautiful patience — patience that is free from complaint, anxiety, and agitation.

Tafsir (Explanation):

O Messenger of Allah, and O believer who follows his path — be patient in the face of the mockery of those who deny the truth and their hasty demands for punishment to befall them. Let your patience be of the most excellent kind: a patience that does not waver into restlessness, does not break into lamentation, and does not seek relief through complaining to anyone other than Allah. It is the patience of one whose heart is firmly anchored in trust in Allah, knowing that His promise is true, His timing is perfect, and His wisdom encompasses all things.

This beautiful patience is not passive resignation; rather, it is an active, dignified endurance — a calm perseverance that reflects deep faith. It means restraining the tongue from complaining about one's trials to people, restraining the heart from bitterness, and restraining the limbs from actions that contradict contentment with Allah's decree. It is the patience that Prophet Ya'qub (peace be upon him) exemplified when he said, "So beautiful patience!" (Yusuf 12:18), and it is the patience that Allah commands His beloved Messenger to embody in the face of adversity.

A Da'wah Reflection:

Dear believer, this verse carries a timeless lesson for every soul that faces hardship, ridicule, or delay in seeing justice prevail. Allah is not asking you to suppress your feelings or pretend that pain does not exist — rather, He is inviting you to a higher station of trust. When you practice beautiful patience, you are not alone; Allah is with you, and He sees every tear, every silent struggle, and every moment you choose to remain dignified for His sake. The reward for such patience is beyond measure: Allah says, "Indeed, the patient will be given their reward without account" (Az-Zumar 39:10). So take heart — your beautiful patience is not weakness; it is the strength of the prophets, and it is the key that unlocks Allah's mercy, victory, and eternal success. Let your patience be a witness to your faith, and let your calm trust in Allah be a light that guides others to the beauty of Islam.

[It is] from Allah, owner of the ways of ascent.
4تَعْرُجُ الْمَلَائِكَةُ وَالرُّوحُ إِلَيْهِ فِي يَوْمٍ كَانَ مِقْدَارُهُ خَمْسِينَ أَلْفَ سَنَةٍ
The angels and the Spirit will ascend to Him during a Day the extent of which is fifty thousand years.
5فَاصْبِرْ صَبْرًا جَمِيلًا
So be patient with gracious patience.
6إِنَّهُمْ يَرَوْنَهُ بَعِيدًا
Indeed, they see it [as] distant,
7وَنَرَاهُ قَرِيبًا
But We see it [as] near.
