Word Meanings:

  • Yarawnahu (يَرَوْنَهُ): They see it / they perceive it — referring to the punishment or the Day of Resurrection.
  • Ba'eedan (بَعِيدًا): Far off / distant — meaning unlikely to happen or impossible in their view.

Explanation of the Verse:

In this verse, Allah Almighty tells us about the state of the disbelievers regarding the promised punishment and the Day of Judgment. They look at these events and consider them utterly distant, impossible, and far from occurring. Their denial of the Resurrection leads them to mock the idea of divine accountability, thinking that it will never come to pass. They see it as something that belongs to the distant future — if it exists at all — and therefore they treat it with indifference and arrogance.

However, the believer understands the reality that Allah has promised: this punishment and the Hour are certain, and they are nearer than the disbeliever imagines. What seems "far" to them is, in fact, close in the sight of Allah, for every promised event is bound to occur, and when Allah decrees a matter, it happens swiftly.

A Da'wah Reflection:

This verse is a gentle yet firm reminder for every soul: do not be deceived by the apparent delay of divine justice. The disbeliever sees the punishment as distant because they measure everything by their limited human perception, unaware that Allah's timing is perfect and His promise is true. For the believer, this verse strengthens patience and certainty — for even if the world seems to favor the wrongdoer for a while, the promise of Allah is nearer than the morning. Let this be an invitation to reflect: if you are among those who doubt, know that the Hereafter is not a myth — it is a reality approaching every moment. And if you are among the believers, hold firm to your faith, for the victory of truth is close, and the punishment for falsehood is inevitable. Allah does not break His promise, and His justice will surely manifest.
