Tafsir (Explanation):

Allah reminds humanity of His absolute power and mercy by pointing to the very origin of their existence. He says: "And He created you in stages"—meaning that you, O people, were not brought into being all at once, but rather through a precise, gradual process that reflects His wisdom and might. You began as a drop of fluid (nutfah), then became a clinging clot (ʿalaqah), then a lump of flesh (muḍghah), then bones were formed, then flesh covered the bones, until you emerged as a complete human being. Each stage was perfectly measured and timed, demonstrating that the One who fashioned you so intricately is fully capable of resurrecting you after death and holding you to account.

This verse comes as a gentle yet powerful rebuke to those who deny Allah’s authority and refuse to fear Him. If you acknowledge that you did not create yourselves—that you passed through these miraculous transformations without any effort or control on your part—then how can you not stand in awe of the Creator who designed and executed this entire process? The One who brought you from nothing and developed you through these stages is the very One calling you to repentance and faith.

Reflect deeply on this: your own body is a living testimony to Allah’s greatness. Every heartbeat, every breath, every cell in your being follows the blueprint He set in motion. If He could take a humble drop of fluid and turn it into a hearing, seeing, thinking human being, then surely He can forgive your sins, answer your prayers, and grant you a life of peace and abundance—both in this world and the next.

So let this realization soften your heart. The same Allah who shaped you with such care and precision is now calling you to turn back to Him. He does not need your worship—you are the one in desperate need of His mercy. And His mercy is vast, open to all who sincerely seek it. Do not let pride or heedlessness keep you from the One who knows every stage of your existence and loves you more than a mother loves her child. Come back to Him, and you will find that He is waiting with open arms, ready to forgive, provide, and guide you to eternal success.
