Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- "Wa ma ramayta idh ramayta" — You did not throw when you threw, meaning the Prophet ﷺ himself did not truly cast the pebbles by his own power alone; rather, Allah made them reach the eyes of the enemy.
- "Bala'an hasanan" — A beautiful trial or favor, meaning a great blessing and honor bestowed upon the believers.
Tafsir (Interpretation):
O believers, do not attribute the victory at Badr to your own strength or skill. You did not kill the polytheists by your own might — for you were few and ill-equipped — but it was Allah who killed them, granting you victory through His divine support and the angels He sent to aid you. Likewise, O Prophet, when you threw that handful of dust at the enemy, it was not your throw that blinded their eyes and filled their faces with it; rather, it was Allah who made that throw reach every single eye among them — something no human could ever accomplish. This was a miracle and a sign of Allah's absolute power over all affairs.
Allah did this to bestow upon the believers a beautiful favor — to test their faith, to elevate their ranks through jihad, and to grant them the spoils of war in this world and Paradise in the Hereafter. He wanted them to recognize His grace upon them and to respond with gratitude and obedience. Indeed, Allah hears all your supplications, whether hidden or public, and He knows perfectly what is best for His servants, their intentions, and their deeds.
A Da'wah Reflection:
How beautiful is this verse in teaching us the essence of tawakkul (reliance on Allah)! It reminds us that all power and strength belong to Allah alone. When you strive in His cause, He is the One who brings about the results — so never become arrogant in your achievements, and never despair in your hardships. The believer's heart should always remain connected to Allah, knowing that victory comes from Him, and that He is the One who turns the impossible into reality. Let this verse inspire you to trust Allah completely in every matter of your life, for He is As-Samee' (the All-Hearing) who listens to your prayers, and Al-'Aleem (the All-Knowing) who knows your sincere intentions. So call upon Him, strive in His path, and leave the outcomes to Him — for He never disappoints those who place their trust in Him.
