Translation — Tafsir

Word Meanings:

  • Dhī Quwwah (ذِي قُوَّةٍ): Possessor of immense strength and power.
  • ʿInda Dhī al-ʿArsh (عِندَ ذِي الْعَرْشِ): In the presence of the Owner of the Throne, i.e., Allah Almighty.
  • Makīn (مَكِينٍ): Of high rank, honored, and firmly established in status and dignity.

Explanation of the Verse:

This verse continues the description of the noble messenger mentioned in the preceding verse—Gabriel (peace be upon him), the trusted carrier of the Divine Revelation. Allah describes him with three profound attributes that affirm his supreme honor and capability.

First, he is "Dhī Quwwah"—possessor of mighty strength. This is not merely physical power, but a comprehensive strength granted by Allah to execute the heaviest of tasks: delivering the Qur’an, the final and most complete revelation, to the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). This strength enabled him to carry the divine message with perfect precision and unwavering determination, overcoming all obstacles.

Second, he holds a distinguished position "ʿinda Dhī al-ʿArsh"—in the presence of Allah, the Owner of the Mighty Throne. This phrase elevates his rank beyond the entire creation, placing him in the highest celestial court, close to his Lord. The Throne (al-ʿArsh) symbolizes Allah’s absolute sovereignty and majesty, and being "with" it signifies proximity to the divine presence itself.

Third, he is "Makīn"—firmly established and honored. This means he enjoys a lofty station, respected and obeyed by the angels, and entrusted with the most sacred of trusts: the revelation. His status is not temporary or fleeting; it is eternal and firmly rooted in the divine order.

A Call to Reflection and Faith:

Dear reader, ponder the greatness of this verse. The One who created the heavens and the earth, who holds the universe in His grasp, chose a messenger of such strength, honor, and trustworthiness to deliver His final words to humanity. This is a testament to the immense value Allah places on His revelation—the Qur’an. If the carrier of this Book is so exalted, how much more should we honor, cherish, and live by its teachings?

Let this verse inspire you to approach the Qur’an with reverence and humility, knowing that it comes from the Throne of the Almighty through the most noble of messengers. It is a light for your path, a mercy for your heart, and a guide to eternal success. Embrace it, and you will find strength in your faith, honor in your character, and a firm standing in this life and the next.
