Surah Al-Inshiqaq — Verse 3

• Muddat (مُدَّت): Stretched out, spread flat, and expanded. It refers to the earth being leveled and extended like a wide expanse, with its mountains removed and its surface made completely smooth.

Tafsir (Explanation):

When the earth is stretched out and spread flat on the Day of Resurrection, its mountains will be crushed and leveled until no peak or valley remains. The earth will be expanded and widened, and it will cast out everything buried within it—all the dead—and become empty of them. It will obey its Lord's command in what He has ordered it to do, and it is right for it to submit to His will. This is a scene of total transformation, where the world we know—with its rugged terrain, towering mountains, and deep oceans—becomes a perfectly smooth, vast plain, prepared for the great gathering of all humanity before their Creator.

Reflection and Da'wah:

Imagine the earth you walk upon today—solid, familiar, and seemingly permanent—being rolled out like a carpet, its mountains turned to dust, its depths emptied. This is not a distant myth; it is a certainty that will unfold by the command of the Almighty. The very ground beneath your feet will bear witness to the power of its Creator, submitting without resistance. If the earth, with all its mass and might, obeys its Lord so completely, how much more should you—a conscious, rational being—submit to the One who created you? Do not let your heart be harder than the mountains, which will be leveled, or more stubborn than the earth, which will stretch out in obedience. The Day is coming when all excuses will vanish, and every soul will stand alone before its Maker. Prepare for that Day now, while you still have the chance to turn back to Allah with a sincere heart, for He is the Most Merciful, the Oft-Forgiving, and He welcomes those who return to Him before it is too late.
