Translation — Tafsir

Word Meanings:

  • الَّتِي (Allatī): Which/that — referring to the city or tribe of Iram.
  • لَمْ يُخْلَقْ مِثْلُهَا (Lam yukhlaq mithluhā): No equal was created to it — meaning nothing comparable in grandeur, strength, or stature.
  • فِي الْبِلَادِ (Fī l-bilād): In the lands — i.e., throughout all regions of the earth.

Explanation of the Verse:

This verse continues the description of the people of 'Ād, specifically the tribe of Iram, who were renowned for their extraordinary might and magnificent architectural achievements. Allah tells us that no people like them were ever created in the entire world — not before them, not after them. They possessed towering stature, immense physical power, and built cities with lofty pillars and structures that had no parallel anywhere on earth. Their civilization was unmatched in its splendor and their strength was unparalleled among nations.

Yet, despite all this power and glory, they turned away from their Lord, rebelled against His messengers, and lived in arrogance and tyranny. They thought their strength would protect them forever, but when the punishment of Allah came, all their might and magnificent buildings could not save them. Their entire civilization was wiped out, leaving behind ruins as a lesson for those who reflect.

A Call to Reflection and Faith:

Dear reader, ponder deeply on this verse. The people of Iram were given strength, wealth, and abilities that no one else on earth possessed. They were the most powerful civilization of their time — yet all of that meant nothing when they disobeyed their Creator. This teaches us a profound lesson: worldly power, wealth, and achievements are not signs of Allah's pleasure, nor do they guarantee safety from His punishment. What truly matters is faith, humility, and obedience to Allah.

Today, we see nations and individuals boasting of their technological advancements, military might, and economic prosperity. But the Quran reminds us that all of this is temporary and fleeting. The One who created the heavens and the earth is far greater than any human achievement. So, do not be deceived by the glitter of this world. Turn to your Lord with sincerity, submit to His will, and seek His mercy — for that is the only path to true success and eternal bliss in the Hereafter. The story of Iram is not just history; it is a living reminder for every generation until the end of time.
