Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- Aḥsanū (أحسنوا): Those who perfected their deeds and excelled in worship, doing what Allah commanded and refraining from what He forbade.
- Al-Ḥusnā (الحسنى): The ultimate good reward, which is Paradise.
- Ziyādah (زيادة): An extra addition beyond Paradise — the greatest of which is gazing upon the Face of Allah, the Most Merciful, in the Hereafter.
- Yarhaqu (يرهق): To cover or overwhelm.
- Qatar (قتر): Dust, gloom, or darkness that covers the face.
- Dhullah (ذلة): Humiliation, disgrace, or abasement.
Tafsir (Explanation):
For those who excelled in their deeds in this worldly life — by sincerely worshipping Allah alone, obeying His commands, and avoiding His prohibitions — there is the most beautiful reward: Paradise, with all its everlasting bliss and delight. And beyond that, they receive an even greater gift: the honor of gazing upon the Face of their Lord, the Most Generous, an experience that surpasses every other joy of Paradise. This is the ultimate "increase" that no eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no human heart can imagine.
Moreover, on the Day of Resurrection, when the faces of the wicked will be darkened with dust, grief, and humiliation, the faces of these righteous believers will be radiant, shining with light and dignity. No gloom will cover them, and no disgrace will touch them — for they are the honored guests of Allah, protected from every sorrow and shame.
These are the true dwellers of Paradise, and they will remain there forever, never to leave, never to die, and never to experience any form of hardship. Their joy is eternal, their peace is unending, and their closeness to their Lord is the crown of all their blessings.
A Call to the Reader:
Dear believer, this verse is a magnificent promise from your Lord — a promise that should fill your heart with hope and motivation. Every good deed you do, every sin you avoid, every moment of patience and sincerity is being recorded, and the reward is beyond your imagination. Allah does not merely repay the good-doers; He overwhelms them with generosity upon generosity. The greatest of all rewards is not Paradise itself, but the vision of Allah's noble Face — a blessing that the Prophet ﷺ described as the most precious gift of the Hereafter.
So strive today, with every breath you take, to be among the muḥsinūn (those who excel in goodness). Perfect your prayers, purify your heart, speak kindly, give charity, and forgive others. And know that your Lord is not only Just but also Most Generous — He multiplies your rewards and grants you what no eye has seen and no mind has conceived.
May Allah make us among those who receive al-Ḥusnā and the Ziyādah, and may He bless us with the joy of gazing upon His noble Face in the eternal gardens of Paradise.
