Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- Al-Haqq (الحق): The truth, meaning the clear signs, miracles, and the message brought by Prophet Musa (Moses), peace be upon him.
- Min ‘indina (من عندنا): From Us (i.e., from Allah), emphasizing that this truth originated from Allah’s divine will and power, not from human invention.
- Siḥr (سحر): Magic or sorcery—a false claim they used to dismiss the miraculous nature of the signs.
- Mubīn (مبين): Clear, evident, or manifest—meaning they claimed it was obvious magic, though in reality it was plainly the truth.
Tafsir (Explanation):
When the undeniable truth came to Pharaoh and his chiefs from Allah—through the mighty signs and miracles granted to Musa and his brother Harun, peace be upon them—they did not pause to reflect or seek guidance. Instead, driven by arrogance, stubbornness, and a deep-seated love for their false status, they immediately rejected it. They said, "This is nothing but clear magic!"—as if the miracles of the staff turning into a serpent, the shining hand, and the other signs were mere tricks of illusion.
Yet, their claim was hollow. They knew in their hearts that these were not the works of a human magician, for no sorcerer could produce such wonders that defied the natural order and carried the weight of divine truth. Their accusation was a desperate attempt to shield themselves and their followers from the call to monotheism, which threatened their authority and their worldly gains. They called it "clear magic" not because it was ambiguous, but because they wanted to make their rejection seem justified—even though the truth was as radiant as the sun at midday.
This verse teaches us a profound lesson: when the truth arrives, the response of the arrogant is often to label it with false names rather than to submit. The heart that is filled with pride finds it easier to deny than to obey. But for the believer, the truth is a mercy and a light. When Allah’s guidance reaches you—through the Qur’an, through sincere preachers, or through the signs in the universe—do not let your ego or your desires blind you. Embrace it with humility, for the same truth that Pharaoh rejected is the key to eternal success. Let this story be a reminder that no power, no wealth, and no status can stand against the truth of Allah. And when you accept it, you join the ranks of those who are truly free—free from the shackles of falsehood and guided to the straight path.
