Word Meanings:

  • مَجْرَاهَا (majrāhā): Its course or movement upon the water.
  • مُرْسَاهَا (mursāhā): Its anchoring, docking, or coming to rest.

Explanation of the Verse:

When the floodwaters overwhelmed the earth and the punishment of Allah descended upon the disbelieving people, Prophet Nuh (peace be upon him) turned to those who had believed in him and said: "Board the ark." He instructed them to embark upon it while uttering the name of Allah—for it is by His command and His will that the ship sails smoothly across the waters, and it is by His name that it comes to rest safely at its destination. Thus, every movement of the vessel, from its departure to its arrival, is wholly dependent upon Allah’s power and mercy.

Nuh then reminded his believing companions of a profound truth: "Indeed, my Lord is Forgiving and Merciful." This statement was both a declaration of gratitude and a source of reassurance. It pointed to the immense favor Allah had bestowed upon them—saving them from the destruction that engulfed the wicked—and it reminded them that His forgiveness encompasses those who repent sincerely and turn back to Him, while His mercy shields the believers from harm.

In this brief yet powerful command, there are timeless lessons for every believer. When we embark upon any endeavor—whether a journey, a new project, or a chapter of life—we should begin with the name of Allah, placing our complete trust in Him. Just as the ark sailed and anchored by His leave, so too do our affairs move and settle only by His decree. And just as Nuh reminded his people of Allah’s forgiveness and mercy, we too should constantly reflect upon the boundless compassion of our Lord, which gives us hope, strength, and tranquility in every storm we face.

📜 Verse 39-43 — Hud

And you are going to know who will get a punishment that will disgrace him [on earth] and upon whom will descend an enduring punishment [in the Hereafter]."
[So it was], until when Our command came and the oven overflowed, We said, "Load upon the ship of each [creature] two mates and your family, except those about whom the word has preceded, and [include] whoever has believed." But none had believed with him, except a few.
And [Noah] said, "Embark therein; in the name of Allah is its course and its anchorage. Indeed, my Lord is Forgiving and Merciful."
And it sailed with them through waves like mountains, and Noah called to his son who was apart [from them], "O my son, come aboard with us and be not with the disbelievers."
[But] he said, "I will take refuge on a mountain to protect me from the water." [Noah] said, "There is no protector today from the decree of Allah, except for whom He gives mercy." And the waves came between them, and he was among the drowned.
