Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- أَسْتَخْلِصْهُ (astakhlishu): I will single him out exclusively for myself, making him one of my closest confidants and advisors.
- مَكِينٌ (makīn): One who holds a firm, established position of high rank and authority.
- أَمِينٌ (amīn): Trustworthy, reliable, and entrusted with important matters.
Tafsir (Explanation):
When the king of Egypt received the definitive proof of Prophet Yusuf's (Joseph, peace be upon him) complete innocence — and witnessed the remarkable wisdom and profound knowledge Yusuf had already demonstrated in interpreting the king's dream — he was utterly impressed. He immediately ordered his officials: "Bring him to me! I will make him exclusively devoted to my service and take him as my special confidant."
When Yusuf was brought before the king, the king engaged him in direct conversation. As he listened to Yusuf's speech, observed his dignified character, and witnessed the clarity of his intellect and the soundness of his judgment, the king was even more convinced of his extraordinary merit. He then declared to Yusuf: "Indeed, from this day forward, you hold with us a firmly established position of great honor and authority, and you are fully trusted in all matters."
This was a magnificent turning point — a divine vindication of Yusuf after years of imprisonment and hardship. The very king who had once imprisoned him now elevated him to the highest rank in the land, acknowledging his integrity, knowledge, and trustworthiness before the entire court.
A Da'wah Reflection:
This beautiful scene from the life of Prophet Yusuf (peace be upon him) teaches us a profound lesson: Allah never abandons those who remain patient and righteous. Yusuf was tested with betrayal by his brothers, temptation by a powerful woman, and years of unjust imprisonment — yet he never lost his faith, his purity, or his character. And when the time came, Allah raised him to a position of immense honor and authority, not merely as a worldly reward, but as a testimony to the truth of his message.
Dear reader, no matter what trials you face today — whether injustice, hardship, or loneliness — know that Allah sees your patience and your integrity. He is the One who turns the hearts of people and the course of events. If you hold firm to your faith and your character, as Yusuf did, Allah will open doors for you that you could never have imagined. He may not give you a palace or a crown, but He will grant you honor in this life and eternal bliss in the Hereafter — for His promise is true, and His wisdom is perfect.
Let us also reflect on the king's words: he called Yusuf "trustworthy" (amīn). Trustworthiness is a quality that Allah loves and that elevates a person in the eyes of others. In our daily lives, whether in our families, our workplaces, or our communities, let us strive to be people of honesty and integrity — for these are the qualities that bring true success and lasting respect, just as they did for Yusuf, the son of Ya'qub, peace be upon them both.
