- "La bay'un feehi wala khilal" (لا بيع فيه ولا خلال): A Day when there will be no trading (ransom or exchange) and no friendship (intercession or mutual benefit).
Explanation of the Verse:
O Messenger, convey this profound command to the believing servants of Allah: establish the five daily prayers with complete devotion and excellence, and spend from the wealth and provisions that Allah has granted you — both in secret and in public. Spend secretly to protect your sincerity from showing off, and spend openly to inspire others and fulfill the obligatory charity (zakat). Do this before the arrival of the Day of Judgment — a Day when no ransom can be paid to save a soul, no trade will benefit anyone, and no friendship or personal connection will avail. On that Day, only faith and righteous deeds will matter.
This verse beautifully combines the two pillars of worship: the right of Allah (prayer) and the right of His creation (charity). It teaches us that true faith is not merely a claim but a living reality that transforms our relationship with our Lord and with His servants. The command to give both secretly and openly shows the wisdom of Islam: secret giving purifies the heart from vanity, while open giving encourages others and strengthens the community.
The urgency in this verse is striking — "before a Day comes" — reminding us that opportunities for good deeds are limited. Today we can pray, give, and draw closer to Allah, but tomorrow may be too late. This is a loving call from the Most Merciful, urging us not to delay our return to Him. Every prayer we offer and every coin we give in charity is an investment in our eternal future, a treasure that will accompany us when nothing else can — not wealth, not status, not even the dearest of friends. So let us seize this precious moment of life and fill it with acts that will illuminate our graves and intercede for us on the Day we stand before our Lord.
