Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- Al-Fulk (الفلك): Ships and vessels.
- Sakhkhara (سخّر): Subjugated, subjected, and made subservient for your benefit.
Tafsir (Explanation):
This verse calls upon the human conscience to reflect on the magnificent signs of Allah’s power and mercy, inviting us to recognize His absolute sovereignty and boundless generosity. Allah — alone, with no partner — is the One who created the heavens and the earth from nothing, establishing them upon perfect order and precision. He then sent down rain from the sky, and through that blessed water, He brought forth fruits of every kind as provision for you — a living, tangible proof of His ability to give life to the dead earth, just as He will resurrect His creation on the Day of Judgment.
Furthermore, Allah subjugated the ships for you, making them sail upon the sea by His command and permission, carrying your goods, connecting nations, and facilitating trade and travel. He also subjected the rivers to your service, flowing gently across the land so that you may drink from them, irrigate your crops, and water your livestock — all of which are essential for your survival and comfort.
In this verse, Allah presents Himself as the ultimate Provider and Facilitator. He did not merely create these things and leave them; rather, He continuously sustains them and places them at your service out of His immense mercy. This is a profound invitation to gratitude — to look around you and realize that every sip of water, every bite of fruit, and every journey across the sea is a gift from your Lord. When you recognize this, your heart naturally turns to Him in love, obedience, and worship. For if He has given you all this in this temporary world, how much greater will be His reward in the eternal Hereafter for those who believe and give thanks? Let this verse awaken in you a deep sense of appreciation, and let it strengthen your trust in the One who has subjected all of this for your sake — for He is indeed the Most Merciful, the Most Generous.
