Translation — Tafsir

Word Meanings:

  • ʿIbādī (My servants): refers to Allah’s sincere, devoted servants who are faithful to Him.
  • Sulṭān (authority/power): means control, influence, or dominance over someone.
  • Ghāwīn (those who go astray): the misguided ones who have deviated from the path of truth and righteousness.

Explanation of the Verse:

In this noble verse, Allah addresses Iblīs (Satan) directly, making it clear that the path to Him is straight and well-defined. After Satan vowed to mislead humanity, Allah declares that this path leads directly to Him and to His eternal honor and reward.

Allah then gives Satan a decisive boundary: "Indeed, My servants—you have no authority over them." This means that the sincere, devoted servants of Allah—those who have purified their faith and submitted wholeheartedly to Him—are completely protected from Satan's influence. He cannot overpower their hearts, corrupt their intentions, or lead them away from the straight path. Their faith is a fortress that Satan cannot breach.

However, Allah makes an exception: "except those who follow you from the misguided ones." This means that Satan's power is limited only to those who willingly choose to follow him—those who have already deviated from the truth and embraced misguidance. These are the people who, by their own choice, prefer Satan's obedience over Allah's obedience, and thus they fall under his influence.

This verse carries a profound message of hope and reassurance for believers. It tells us that our protection from Satan is not based on our own strength, but on our sincere connection with Allah. When we truly devote ourselves to Him, He shields us from all evil. The verse also serves as a warning: the moment we choose to follow our desires and heed Satan's whispers, we step into his domain and lose that divine protection.

A Call to Reflection:

Dear reader, this verse is a beautiful reminder that your relationship with Allah is your greatest shield. No matter how many temptations surround you, no matter how strong the whispers of doubt or sin may be, know that Allah has promised to protect His sincere servants. The key is sincerity—to make your faith real, your worship genuine, and your heart attached to Him.

If you ever feel overwhelmed by sin or despair, remember that Satan only has power over those who choose to follow him. Turn back to Allah with a sincere heart, and He will welcome you with open arms, placing you among His protected servants. This is the mercy and honor that Allah offers to every one of His creation—so why not seize it today?
